Revocation is the control, not the band

A member of staff leaves on Friday and their band still opens the stock store. The band is not the problem — the missing register is. Bands are delivered in sequential blocks with a record of the numbers in each; what the property must hold is the mapping from number to holder. With it, revocation takes ten seconds. Without it, a departure means re-issuing a department or accepting a live credential in the wild.

Chemicals, not sun cream

Guest bands fail to sun cream. Staff bands fail to kitchen degreaser, housekeeping chemicals, hot water and being caught on trolleys, for twelve months rather than two weeks. Printed surfaces do not survive that and debossed silicone does, which is why staff bands are debossed as a rule and why a guest specification should not simply be reordered in a different colour for the team.

Contractors should expire by design

A dated or single-visit band in a cheap substrate and a distinct colour means an unreturned contractor credential solves itself. The alternative is issuing a durable band and relying on someone at the gate remembering to collect it on a Friday afternoon, which is a control that exists on paper only.

Order it with the guest run

Staff bands almost always share an artwork approval and a production slot with the guest order, which is why they rarely extend a lead time. The exception is when the staff band needs a different substrate or a different transponder from the guest band — worth establishing early, because it turns one production run into two and the second one is small enough to sit behind other work.
