RFID paper wristbands

Some bands should not last. A day-pass guest who leaves at six has no use for a season-grade credential, and a property that recovers and re-issues them inherits a cleaning, testing and re-encoding job that costs more than the band did. This is the answer: a laminated coated-paper band with a transponder inside, cheap enough to issue and discard, and tamper-evident so it cannot be handed over the fence.

Compatibility

Bands are encoded to work with the lock and point-of-sale systems your property already runs. We supply entry, standard and high-security HF transponders at 13.56 MHz, and 125 kHz where a property still runs a low-frequency estate.

Name the system on your enquiry and send a spare card if you have one. Bands arrive in sequential blocks, ready to issue, with nothing to program on site.

Substrates

Available in coated paper.

The construction is fixed; the substrate is the decision. This is where wear period, water behaviour and unit price are actually settled.

Why the printed number and the encoded number must match

A disposable RFID band has one failure mode that a reusable one does not: it is issued fast, by whoever is on the gate, to someone who is already impatient. There is no enrolment desk and no time to test a read. So the band has to be self-describing on its face, and the printed sequential number has to correspond exactly to the credential number encoded inside it.

We produce them as one operation for that reason. The encoding step reads the block it has just written and prints the matching human-readable number in the same pass, rather than printing a number range and encoding a range and trusting the two to line up. If a band fails encoding verification it is pulled before printing, so a gap in the printed sequence is a pulled band, not a mismatch.

That matters at the point where something goes wrong. A guest presents a band that will not open a locker; a supervisor reads the number off the band and looks it up rather than fetching a reader. A band that has been swapped, or is from last week, or was never issued, is identifiable in a few seconds with no equipment. On a busy gate that is the difference between a queue and an incident.

The band is not built to be recovered. The adhesive closure destroys the surface coating on removal, which is the tamper evidence, and it also means a recovered band cannot be re-closed on another wrist. Properties that want the chip back should be specifying a fabric or silicone band with a returns process, and we will say so — the economics of recovering a laminated paper band do not work at any volume we have seen.
