Staff and contractor wristband access
Staff credentials are the part of a wristband programme that carries genuine risk. They open doors guests never see, they are worn every day for a year, and unlike a guest band they are not naturally retired at checkout. The failure is almost never the band. It is that nobody can say which band number belonged to the person who left.
The issue register is the deliverable
Bands arrive in sequential blocks with a delivered record of the numbers in each block. What the property must maintain is the other half: which number went to which person, on what date, and when it came back. Without it, a departure means either re-issuing an entire department or accepting that a live credential is unaccounted for. With it, revocation is a ten-second database action. The register is unglamorous and it is the whole control.
Zone by department, and keep the list short
Access zoning tends to inflate until everyone has everything, which is the same as having no zoning. A workable model is three or four zones — general back-of-house, food-handling areas, plant and technical, and cash or stock — with individuals assigned by role rather than by request. Any zone with more than about a third of the staff in it should be reconsidered, because it is no longer restricting anything.
Contractors expire; staff do not
A contractor band should stop working by design rather than by administration. A dated, single-visit or week-dated band in a distinct colour and a cheap substrate means an unreturned contractor credential is a self-solving problem. The alternative — issuing a durable band and relying on collection at the end of the job — depends on someone at the gate remembering, on a Friday, to ask for it back.
Time and attendance needs one reader, not a system
Where a property wants shift records, a single reader at the staff entrance is usually enough and is a fraction of the cost of a full workforce platform. It answers the question actually being asked — who was on site and when — and it does not attempt to be a payroll system. Properties that specify more than this at the outset generally end up using the same one number.
