Checking a wristband delivery on arrival

Count per carton, not in total

Bands are packed in counted blocks and the delivery record states which ranges are in which carton, so the check is per carton against that record. A summed total hides a specific shortfall and makes it impossible to say later which block was short. It also matters for the issue register: a range recorded as delivered and never actually received produces a permanent gap that nobody can explain.

Spot-check the encoding on arrival

Every band is read back after writing at our end, but the check worth doing at yours is different: it confirms that the bands work on your reader rather than on ours. One band from each block, presented to the equipment that will actually be used, takes a few minutes and is the only test that reflects your property. It is also the moment a problem is still cheap.

Colour drifts, and it drifts between deliveries

Colour is matched to a physical reference and reproduced within a tolerance, and a second production run can land marginally different from the first. Comparing against the approved sample on arrival — in daylight, not under store-room lighting — catches a drift that guests would otherwise notice as a difference between this week's bands and last week's. Keep the approved reference sample somewhere findable for exactly this reason.

Test the closure, on purpose

Fasten ten bands from different cartons. A one-way snap that does not click, an adhesive tab that does not hold or a lock that can be reopened is the defect that undermines the whole point of the band, and it is invisible until somebody actually closes one. Ten bands is a negligible cost and it is the single most informative physical check on this list.
