Wristbands for eco-lodges and sustainable properties
A property with a published sustainability position is held to it, by guests, by certification bodies and by anyone with a phone. The wristband is a small item that gets asked about disproportionately, because it is plastic in a place that has promised not to be.
Claim the harvest cycle, not the compost bin
Cork is stripped by hand from a living tree that regrows the bark and is harvested again about nine years later, across a productive life measured in generations. No tree is felled. That claim is specific, verifiable and survives a questionnaire. What does not survive is calling the finished band biodegradable — our cork faces are agglomerated with a polymer binder, so they are not, and we will not describe them that way. A claim that collapses under a guest's reading is worse than never making it.
Recycled content needs a document, not an adjective
Post-consumer rPET yarn weaves, dyes and wears like virgin polyester, so a recycled band is not a performance compromise. What makes it worth specifying is the recycled-content declaration supplied with the delivery, because that is the thing a certification audit or a corporate client actually asks for. A band described as recycled with no paperwork behind it is a marketing line, and it is the kind that gets a property written about.
Reuse beats material choice
The largest environmental variable is not what the band is made of, it is how many bands a guest goes through. A durable band recovered and re-issued across a season has a far better profile than a compostable one issued daily, whatever the material. Properties serious about this should be looking at a returns process and a recovery rate before they look at substrates, and should be prepared for the answer that recovery is operationally harder than it sounds.
What we will not print
We will not put a recycling symbol on a band that is not accepted by ordinary municipal streams, and we will not use "eco", "green" or "natural" as unqualified adjectives on a product page or on a band. Where a property wants a claim on the band itself, it has to be one we can evidence in writing with the delivery. That constraint is occasionally unwelcome and it is the reason the claim is worth anything.
What to tell us before we quote
- Any certification scheme you report into, and what it requires
- Whether documentation must accompany each delivery
- Whether bands are recovered and re-issued, and at what rate
- Claims you intend to make publicly about the band
- Whether guests are expected to keep or return it
500 bands per artwork, mixed colours counted as one run.
Compatibility is subject to confirmation of your lock system, credential technology and encoding requirements.
Usually specified
Bands that suit this sector.
Properties with a published environmental position are the ones most likely to be asked to justify what they hand a guest. That makes the paperwork as important as the material: a documented recycled content, a harvest cycle that can be described accurately, and a refusal to describe anything as biodegradable when it is not.
Band 09
Cork RFID wristbands
Harvested bark, not felled timber. The lightest natural band we make, and the one with a defensible sustainability story.
SpecificationBand 10
Recycled RFID wristbands
Woven from post-consumer PET yarn. Performs like standard polyester because it is standard polyester — with a documented feedstock.
SpecificationBand 07
Wooden RFID wristbands
A sealed wooden faceplate on an adjustable cotton cord. Specified where the credential is part of the guest experience rather than an interruption to it.
SpecificationOn the property
What the band is doing here day to day.
Use 13
VIP and tier recognition
Letting staff recognise a returning guest without the guest ever seeing the mechanism.
What to specifyUse 01
Pool and zone access
The band that decides who is inside the fence. Usually the first reader a property installs, and the one that pays for itself fastest.
What to specifyUse 03
All-inclusive identification
The band that tells a server what a guest is entitled to, from four metres away, without asking.
What to specify
No obligation · reply within one working day
Specify a band with documented provenance.
Send the property type, the volume and the season length. We reply with one recommendation, a unit price, a lead time and samples of the band we would specify.
