Wristbands that open guest rooms
A band that opens a room door is not a harder version of a band that opens a pool gate. It is a different procurement, because the lock is already installed, it was chosen by someone else, and it will accept exactly one kind of credential. Everything on this page is about establishing what that is before anything is manufactured.
Three facts settle it, and they are all yours
The make and model of the lock, the credential technology it reads, and the encoding scheme it expects. Without all three, any quotation is a guess. With all three, the answer is usually yes and occasionally a clear no — and a clear no delivered before an order is placed is worth considerably more to a property than an optimistic yes delivered before a shipment of bands that will not open anything.
Where a third-party band cannot work
Some lock platforms use credentials that are factory-encoded by the lock vendor with keys held only by them. On those systems a blank from any other supplier will not enrol, and no amount of matching the chip family changes that — the barrier is cryptographic, not physical. This is not a limitation we can engineer around and we will say so immediately rather than sell a run and let a property discover it at installation. Many other systems accept customer-enrolled blanks perfectly well, which is why the model number is the first question.
Test a sample on the actual lock
Before a room-access run is produced, a small sample set goes to the property and is presented to a real door by whoever maintains the locks. This is not a formality. A band can be technically correct and still read poorly on a specific door because of where the antenna sits relative to the reader coil, and that is discovered by touching the band to the lock, not by comparing datasheets. A sample test costs days. A failed run costs a season.
The band is thicker than a card, and doors were designed for cards
Lock readers are usually calibrated for a card presented flat against a plate. A wristband arrives at an angle, on a wrist, with a forearm behind it, and the transponder may be a third the area of a card antenna. That combination reduces effective range, so a band that reads at three centimetres in the lab reads on contact at the door. On most locks that is entirely fine. On a lock with a recessed reader it is not, and the sample test is what tells you which one you have.
