NFC wristbands

NFC is what happens when the reader is the guest's phone instead of your door. The band carries a small record that any modern handset can read by touching it, which turns a wristband into a link — to a schedule, a map, a menu, a check-in form. It is not a replacement for an access credential and specifying it as one is the most common mistake we see.

Compatibility

Bands are encoded to work with the lock and point-of-sale systems your property already runs. We supply entry, standard and high-security HF transponders at 13.56 MHz, and 125 kHz where a property still runs a low-frequency estate.

Name the system on your enquiry and send a spare card if you have one. Bands arrive in sequential blocks, ready to issue, with nothing to program on site.

Why the band is locked, and why the link must point at something you control

Two decisions make or break an NFC band, and both are made before production. The first is locking. A band left writable can be rewritten by anyone with a phone and a free app in about four seconds, which means a guest can point your wristband at anything they like. We write the record and lock it read-only before dispatch. That is irreversible by design, and it is the correct default for anything issued to the public.

The second is what the record points at. It must be a URL on a domain you control, and it must redirect rather than resolve directly to the content. A band encoded with a link to this season's schedule is a band that is wrong next season and cannot be corrected, because it is locked. A band encoded with a link to your own short path, which you repoint whenever you like, is correct forever. This costs nothing to set up and is the single most valuable thing on this page.

The read is a tap, not a scan across a room. HF has a working range of a few centimetres, and a phone's antenna position varies by handset — top edge on most, centre-back on others. Guests find it within one or two attempts and then never think about it again, but signage that says "tap the band on the back of your phone" saves a surprising amount of front-desk time in the first days.

None of this makes the band an access credential. A phone-readable record and an access credential are different things: one is public information anyone can read, the other is a secured identifier your lock system recognises. A band can carry both, on separate chips or separate memory, and if that is what you need it should be specified explicitly at the enquiry stage rather than assumed.
