A wrist under three layers is not presentable

The assumption behind every wristband reader is that a guest can put their wrist near it. Outdoors on a mountain that is false: exposing a wrist means removing a glove and pushing back a cuff in cold weather, which guests will not do repeatedly. This is the reason lift access at most resorts uses a pocket-carried credential rather than a wristband, and it is worth being honest about. The wristband's place at a mountain property is indoors — spa, pool, lockers, bars and rooms — where sleeves come off.

Thermal cycling and what it does to a seam

A band goes from minus ten outside to a thirty-degree wellness area twice a day. Different materials in one band expand at different rates, so any glued or welded seam is worked mechanically every cycle. Over a season that is several hundred cycles, and it is why pocketed transponder constructions fail faster at altitude than at a beach. Over-moulded silicone has no seam to work, which makes it the default here for the same reason it is the default for long stays.

The wellness area is the peak, and it is at four o'clock

Mountain properties have an unusually sharp load curve: almost the whole house arrives at the spa and pool within an hour of the lifts closing. That concentration governs locker count, reader count at the changing-room door and how many bands the desk has to issue in a burst. Sizing any of those to a daily average produces a queue in wet swimwear, which is the single most reliable complaint generator in an alpine hotel.

Dry air, static and the band on the bedside table

Heated mountain air is very dry, guests wear fleece, and static discharge is constant. It does not damage a modern transponder but it does make bands cling and it makes guests take them off indoors more than at a beach property. Expect a higher rate of bands left in rooms, and specify a comfortable band accordingly — the band that stays on the wrist is the one that works, and comfort is what decides that here rather than water resistance.
