Hemp and jute
Hemp and jute are bast fibres, stripped from the stem of the plant rather than the seed head, which is why the yarn is coarse, strong and visibly twisted. A band made from them looks made rather than manufactured, and that is the entire reason to specify one.

Texture is the product
These fibres cannot be spun fine, and attempts to smooth them out defeat the point. The visible twist, slight irregularity and matte earth tone are what a glamping site or an eco-lodge is buying. Guests handle them differently from a printed synthetic band: they read as an object, and a noticeable share of them are kept.
Strength and behaviour in heat
Bast fibre has high tensile strength for its weight and does not stretch appreciably, so a band holds its fitted length through a week of wear. Both fibres tolerate heat and sun well. They do absorb moisture and take time to dry, and jute in particular darkens when repeatedly wet, so a band that goes in the sea daily will not look the way it did on day one.
Marking, not printing
Coarse fibre will not hold fine print. We brand these bands with a laser-etched or stamped tag — wood, cork or metal — carried on the webbing, rather than trying to put graphics onto the weave. The tag becomes the branded surface and the place a QR or number lives. It is a different design language from a printed band and should be treated as one from the start rather than as a compromise.
Chip and closure
The module sits inside the tag or in a sealed pocket at the join, which keeps rigid components off the wrist. Closures are a knotted or sliding-bead adjustment for a deliberately informal look, or a metal clasp where the band must be removable. Tamper evidence is weaker than on a one-way slider, so these are not the right choice where the band is the entitlement.
